The Sims brand

When The Sims celebrated its 25th year of cultural relevance, it was time to make sure it showed up like the baddie it is. As the Creative Director of Design, there was a mountain of work ahead for the whole team. We knew we’d need to partner with one of the best (& delightful) design firms we possibly could: Collins. Months of preparation, workshops and collaboration resulted in a refreshed brand that was equal parts fresh and nostalgic for a long future ahead.

The Sims Kits

True design magic happens with business challenges are solved with art. The Sims launched Kits to fill product gaps with smaller bites of content for fast-moving cultural trends. These packs were often made with community creators or designs the team loved but didn’t fit into a standard expansion pack.

While this made sense for the brand, logistical challenges quickly surfaced. Compressed timelines meant game development + marketing teams had to create assets at the same time. But, how do you market something that isn’t real yet? Close collaboration.

We developed an illustration style with Buck to free ourselves from needing completed digital assets. Working hand-in-hand with the game’s art directors, we created representations of the assets that could be launched within a month of the pack’s completion.
